I will upload this as soon as the Royal Observatory/National Maritime Museum are fine with me doing so but I have just finished a film with the help of Mike Paterson, for the Royal Observatory’s Astronomer Photographer of the Year Exhibition.
Aha! Here it is!
- Astrotags are a new way to label your astronomy photos with their celestial subject and its location. This short film, made by Jim Le Fevre and Mike Paterson for the Royal Observatory’s Astronomy Photographer of the Year exhibition, shows you how. So have a watch, then astrotag your pictures at the Astronomy Photographer of the Year group on Flickr. If everyone joins in we can make a beautiful and accurate map of the night sky… so pass the word on.

- Many thanks to Blur and EMI Records for permission to use Far Out.
It was commissioned by Natasha Waterson from the National Maritime Museum (and forwarded on by Mr Peter Collingridge, thank you Pete) to explain a rather natty new thing that they are doing which charts Amateur Astronomer’s photographers into a comprehensive map of space.
Helped amazingly along the way in making this film by Beccy McCray who managed to secure us the permission to use Blur’s ‘Far Out’ track from their ‘Parklife’ album. The song, whose lyrics were written by Alex James, was inspired by the Beagle missions to space and was a perfect track for such a film. Thanks also go to Terry Felgate and Elaine Crowther at EMI Music (and of course to Blur too).
