The wonderful Luke De Saintogne was working in a predominantly academic publishing house where the owner, Mr Sood, suggested exploiting the novelty books market. Luke got in touch with me through a colleague who knew me, Mr Mark Hegarty, and for a few months we put together a few fairly cynically constructed ‘Little Books of…’. Eventually we made the Life’s Book of Firsts which I don’t think you can get now.

In actual fact the writing is really lovely and I am fairly proud of the illustrations even though I’ve never been educated in the finer points of book illustration.
